THEMATIC AXES
1. GEOPOETICS
Geopoetics is understood as the intensity of relational perception between human beings and the environment [natural (biotic and abiotic) and artificial (urban)]. According to Kenneth White “Geopoetics is a transdisciplinary practical theory applicable to all areas of life and research, which aims to restore and enrich the long-broken human-earth relationship — with the known ecological, psychological, intellectual and social consequences, thus developing new existential perspectives in an open world”(source). Geopoetics offers a new foundation and proposes a new way of thinking and feeling the world, valuing aesthetic perception, direct experience, and a deep connection with the land, landscape, and environment. It emphasizes the creative potential that emerges from the encounter between humans and the natural world. In this sense, Geopoetics is not limited to traditional poetry but encompasses a broader approach to artistic and intellectual creation, including philosophy, exact science, and other forms of cultural expression.
2. CULTURAL LANDSCAPES
Cultural landscape is a concept that highlights the importance of interaction between humans and nature in developing landscapes with historical and cultural value. It reflects the transformation of a society and its way of life shaped by the culture, history, beliefs, and practices of a community in a given territory. There are three main concepts of cultural landscapes, widely used in preservation and territorial planning studies by UNESCO:
- "Clearly defined" landscapes: Areas planned and designed by human intervention, such as gardens, parks, or agricultural areas.
- "Evolving" landscapes: Areas that have evolved through human activities and reflect a continuity of use, such as agricultural or pastoral areas.
- "Associative" landscapes: Places with a strong cultural or religious association, even if they do not show evident physical modifications.
